John Heaton was a local lad who came to Turf Moor to take part in a trial match in August 1914 as the club was trying out new players ready for the coming season.

He played as a left winger but sadly was unable to perform to a high enough standard and was not taken on as a player.

Buried in Vermelles British Cemetery, near Lens in Northern France

His war is over, his sun is set, 
But those who loved him, will never forget.
